Nice Vacation...
STUPID BODORON!
'Nice valleys!' he said. 'Peaceful, no war here!' he said.
RIIIGHT!
Now to his credit, it isn't every vacation that you get to walk into a welcome party, or more specifically, an ambush. It definitely isn't the norm for vacations to potentially have your gut peppered full of arrows or get charred by hellhounds before we even reach our actual destination. Though I can probably imagine it was not what he meant when he said it was an 'exciting' place to visit, Bodoron's 'keen attention' to the local happenings leaves much to be desired.
Oh well. Anyway, we had been on our way to a 'quaint little quiet trading town' that Bodoron spoke of, and were on our merry way up a road. I had dismounted to stroll a little. (being the slowest in the party due to my armour, it was difficult catch up with the rest.) It was fortunate that Wudi and Nighthawk managed to shout and push us into cover before the arrows started raining down where we were standing. An ambush of 6 yellow-skinned creatures (we know them to be hobgoblins later), barely visible from the foliage among the trees, were sniping at us. Nighthawk managed to down two quickly with his deadly accuracy, while Godzilla (Goldfish's gorilla companion) tore another to shreds, while my spiritual weapon harrassed a third.
However they were joined by reinforcements, among them a hellhound. Another hellhound was summoned, fortunately the magic circle I created managed to buy the rear ranks (me, goldfish, and Istellos) some time, warding it off. We got burnt though by its fiery breath.
Fortunately we were well rested the night before, and soon managed to down all of them. We also managed to capture a priest, who we discovered is worshipping Tiamat. This was worrisome. Nighthawk also noticed that a lot of tracks were leading to the said town we were going to rest in, and thinking that it might be under attack, we wasted little time once we salvaged everything of value from the cold dead corpses of the hobgoblins.
It seemed though that the attack, if there was one, had failed. We were greeted by two suspicious sentries who let us go after I convinced them of our good intentions. We promptly dropped our travel gear at the Green Apple Inn, before we went around to visit the various sites of interest.
Although it seems that the town is already prepared for trouble, it seems that they are not quite prepared enough: they have been repeatedly denying that it is even remotely possible that hobgoblins have extra-planar allies (the hellhounds), or even the ability to summon them. This bodes ill.
Oh well. Noro Winston, the Speaker of the Town, hired us to clear the hobgoblins for him. Hopefully it is simple enough. Once this is over, maybe we can get to our actual rest.
